Crochet 101: Stitch Abbreviations
When you’re ready to move on from my beginners guide, or video demonstrations over on YouTube, you might dive into the world of pattern reading. It’s great to be able to follow a written pattern and this will really help to improve your crochet knowledge, but they can be confusing when you’re first starting out. Take a look at the line below: make any sense?
Ch1 , *sc, hdc, dc, hdc, sc*, rep from * to *
No?! You’re not alone, I don’t think I even bothered with a written pattern for the first 2 years of crochet because they seemed so confusing and of course each pattern is written slightly differently depending on the designer. The good news is I’m here to help. I’ve put together another of my handy charts to help you on your way to making a start with pattern reading. Not every single abbreviation is listed but the basics are and that will go along way when reading a beginner pattern.

I hope this helps, remember I’m always around via a comment below or DM via Instagram if you need any help.
Enjoy your cuppa,
Hev xoxo
